He was born June 2, 1938, in Pekin, Ill. He was the son of Lawrence E. (father) and Helen Butterfield (stepmother) and Bud (stepfather) and Ruth N. Keefer Armstrong (mother). Jack married Martha Ann Anderson on April 1, 1959, in Garman Addition.
Jack is survived by his wife of 52 years; two daughters, Christina Gibbons of Peoria and Cheryl (Joseph) Knox of Creve Coeur; a son, Michael Butterfield of Kingston Mines; three brothers, Dean Butterfield and Carl (Sharlene) Butterfield of Pekin and Ronald (Cheryl) Armstrong of Green Valley; a sister, Sue (Bill) Collander of Pekin; and stepmother, Helen Butterfield of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Butterfield; mother, Ruth Armstrong; stepfather, Bud Armstrong; and brother, Calvin Butterfield.
Jack worked at Gold Schmidt Chemical Co. until he retired in 2000.
In his younger years he enjoyed being an auctioneer.
Jack served in the Army and Air Force.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and racing. He also enjoyed watching his grandson, Kenneth Butterfield, at the race track.
Cremation has been accorded and private family services will be held.
