Elizabeth's parent were Christopher Althoff and Sophie Luchtel, Christopher Althoff was born at Florsheim, near Frankfort, Germany on June 25, 1852, a son of William and Mary Althoff. Christopher came to America with his younger brother, Henry when he was 21 years old. He came to Carroll County, Iowa. Two years later, he married Sophie Luchtel. They had two children, Elizabeth and Herman. They moved to Salem, South Dakota about 1884. While there Christopher's wife died. Christopher married again, to Mrs. Henry (Bernadine) Tuschen. She had two sons, Henry and Frank Tuschen. They lived their lives in South Dakota. To this marriage, Christopher and his wife had 11 children, seven sons and four daughters.

From Salem, South Dakota they moved to sterling, Oklahoma about 1902. They lived here about seven years. In 1908, three of the children, Tony, Will, and Mary, went to Wyoming to settle. The rest of the family went in 1909. They settled near Powell, Wyoming. Mrs. Althoff died there in 1924. Christopher died on August 15, 1937. (All the Children are deceased.)
