Claim of widow for service pension Under the provisions of Acts of Congress of July 29 1848 and of 3rd February 1853 State of Georgia County of Warren
On this 11th day of November A.D. 1880, personally appeared before me H H Fitzpatrick Clerk Superior Court of said County same being a court of record within and for the County and State aforesaid, Eleanor Pool born on March 20, 1809, aged 71 1/2 years, a resident of Warren County, in the State of Georgia, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of Henry Pool Senior of said County deceased, who was the identical Henry Pool Senior, who served under the name of Henry Pool as a private in the Company commanded by Captain __ in the __Regiment of Volunteer Infantry commanded by Colonel and General Francis Marion's division in the war of the Revolution; that her said husband Henry Pool [the blank in the printed form in which the words "Henry Pool" aforesaid were inserted actually called for the applicant to state whether her husband was a drafted, enlisted or volunteer soldier] at in[sic] South Carolina on or about the __ day of __ A.D. __ for the term of the war, and continued in actual service in said war for the term of the war about __ years and whose service is terminated, by reason of the Declaration of Peace & his discharged at Charleston South Carolina on or about [the] __ day of __ A.D. 1783. She further states that the following is a full description of her said husband at the time of his enlistment, viz.: He was about 13 or 14 years old, well grown, light complexion, blue eyes, light hair, born & raised in South Carolina as deceased informed deponent. Her knowledge of him [sic]. *She further states that said Henry Pool married on or about the __ day of __ 1784 Susan Ractley in Darlington District South Carolina, who died on or about the __ day of __ 1830. That after her death the said Henry Pool married Polly Wilson widow of John Wilson in Warren County Georgia on the 10th day of May 1832 as appears from the marriage license & certificate hereto attached: That this wife died on the __ day of August 1844.* She further states that she was married to the said Henry Pool in the County of Warren, in the State of Georgia on the 31st day of January A.D. 1845 by one John Land, who was a Justice of the Peace, as appears from exhibit attached and that her name before her marriage was Eleanor Hutcherson, and that she has not remarried since the death of said Henry Pool; and she further states that her said husband previously had been married as set out in * on margin, & that neither of said wives had ever a pension, bounty and that her husband Henry Pool, died at his home in Warren County, in the State of Georgia, on the 25th day of June A.D. 1852; and that she further declares that the following have been the places of residence of her said husband since the date of his discharge from the Army, viz.: In Darlington District South Carolina until 1832 when he married his 2nd wife & moved to Warren County, Georgia where he lived with her until his death & since then until his death she lived in same place where she now resides. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the Pension to which she may be entitled under Acts of Congress July 29 1848 and of February 3 1853 and hereby appoints, with full powers of substitution and revocation, Charles S. DuBose, of Warren County Georgia her true and lawful attorney to prosecute her claim & that she did not age or take part in the war between the states. And she further declares that she has heretofore made no application for pension or bounty, nor did her deceased husband or either of his wives as far as she knows, cannot hear of & believes and that her residence is at the old Pool Homestead in County of Warren State of Georgia, and that her post office address is Warrington said state of Georgia. Her grave is in the yard of a nearby house, in either Warren or Glascock Counties.
