MARIETTA -- Services for Lamar I. Carter, 95, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Higle officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.

Carter was born July 3, 1905, at New Hope, Indian Territory, to May and Fannie Pittman Carter. He died Sept. 3, 2000, at his residence.

A resident of Marietta since 1981, he moved here from Watonga where he had lived 35 years. He was a retired rancher, working at the Colvert Hereford Ranch, an auto salesman, former Watonga policeman and he maintained the Watonga City Airfield many years. He was preceded in death by a brother, Curtis; and two sisters, Edith Bechtol and Lavelle Laird.

Survivors include two sons, David L. Carter, Roswell, N.M. and Dr. Richard I. Carter, Ames, Iowa; a sister, Naomi Landrum, Anaheim, Calif.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Bearers will be Jim Diggs, Herman Roberson, Dutch Knowles, Eldon Dean, Wade Moore and Bud Barnes. Honorary bearers are fellow Sunday school class members.
