Abbie A. Yeaton, 83, of West Point Road died Friday, April 25, at Winship Green Nursing Center.

She was born to Henry M. and Viola Perry Wallace on April 16, 1925, on a tidal island in West Point, Maine, known as "The Island." One of six children, "Aileen" always knew Heaven was a little closer in a family by the sea.

As a young woman, she lived in Popham, where she met her future husband Herbert A. Yeaton, who was stationed at Fort Baldwin. They were married in Bath on April 17, 1943, and raised their five children in West Point. They lived for a brief time on Peaks Island, where she worked as a nanny for the commanding officer's children.

She had a servant's heart and devoted her time to God's honor. She served as a nursing assistant at the Bath Memorial Hospital, volunteered many hours for the American Cancer Society, fundraised for charity and community outreach programs for those in need.

She tithed her time willingly and dependably as the church organist, church board, child education, yearly vacation bible school and to mentoring her 46 grand and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed working with her hands and handstitched quilts for grandchildren as each was born.

Quilting was one of her favorite hobbies along with knitting, crocheting, cross stitching, reading and gardening. Another favorite thing for her was spending social time with family and friends and she always enjoyed a funny story.

She was a life long member at the Church of the Nazarene in West Point. She had a deep appreciation for God's creations and a spiritual contentment with life's challenges and opportunities.

She is survived by two sons, Herbert A. Jr. and his wife, Cheryl Yeaton, of West Point and Milton W. Yeaton Sr. of Brunswick; three daughters, Charlotte E. and her husband, Cal Kinney, of California, Carmalene M. Valliere of Kingfield and Dawnelle L. and her husband, Dean Ventry, of Phippsburg; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years Nov. 29, 2005; four brothers, Chester, William, Christopher and Fred Wallace; and one sister, Florence Skelton.
