HILTONS, Va. – Mary Lee (Gilley) Gardner, age 93, went to be with the Lord early Monday morning, May 21, 2007, while at the Bristol Nursing Home.
She was born on Thursday, Aug. 14, 1913, in Washington County, Va., a daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Rachel Herendon Gilley. She was a homemaker and a member of Gardner's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harrie Gardner (1982); two brothers; and five sisters.
She is survived by two daughters, Lois Hurley and husband Robert of Sevierville and Peggy Bays and husband Donald of Hiltons; seven sons, Gale Gardner of Gate City, Jack Gardner and wife Lenna Jo of Erwin, Tenn., Donald Gardner of Yanceyville, N.C., Jimmy Gardner and wife Nancy of Charlotte, N.C., Ewell Gardner and wife Mary of Mount Morris, Ill., Tony Gardner and wife Jennie of Gate City, and Phil Gardner and wife Teresa of Hiltons; 29 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews; and many other family members also survive.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, May 23, 2007, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home. The funeral will follow in the funeral chapel, with Brother David Gardner officiating. The burial will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Gardner family cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. It is requested that family and friends meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. Condolences may be sent by visiting www.scottcountyfuneralhome.com.
