Portsmouth – Cynthia Lee (Ashley) Hussey, 77, passed away at her home in Portsmouth, Virginia. Born on November 12, 1945, Cynthia was the daughter of the late William and Audrey (Owens) Ashley. She was predeceased by husband. Rodney Thomas Hussey, Sr.

Cynthia is survived by her loving family: son, Rodney Thomas "Tommy" Hussey, Jr. and his wife, Shannon; 3 grandchildren: Sabrina, Chloe, and Maria; her brothers: William Ashley, Jr., James Ashley and his wife, Jane; and a sister, Susan Collins and husband, Robert and her 4 nieces: Shelby, Jennifer, Laura and Nicole.

She attended Radford College, Tidewater Community College and Old Dominion University earning both an AS and BS in Education.

Cynthia loved dogs and was active in many local clubs in the Tidewater area. She was a member of the Portsmouth/Chesapeake Obedience Training Club for 35 years, during which time she served in the capacities of president, VP, secretary, and training director. She was also an ardent member of the Carolina Aussie Club, Blue Ridge Aussie Club, Shetland Sheepdog Club of America, and served as an Obedience Judge. Cynthia was the owner and trainer of Fun Dogs on Wheels for 15 years.

Active in scouting, Cynthia was the recipient of the Gold Bar Award from the Girl Scouts of America; she was also associated with the Boy Scouts, Pack 216, Merrimac District, as day camp director, the program direction council and the training staff.

A Requiem Eucharist will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2022 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 424 Washington Street, Portsmouth, Virginia 23704. Burial will be held at a later date.
