The Rev. William August Anderson, 79, of Waco, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2008. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul Krupicka officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home.

The Rev. Anderson was born in Beaumont, Texas, to the late William and Sophie Anderson. He was a graduate of Beaumont High School and Texas Lutheran University in Seguin. He was always proud of the fact that he received the first Bachelor's Degree from Texas Lutheran after it became a senior college in 1948. He then attended Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, where he met Barbara, his wife of 54 years.

Following graduation, he was ordained as a pastor in the Lutheran Church on Sept. 13, 1953. He faithfully served as pastor of Christ Lutheran Church in Georgetown from 1953 to 1956 and Christ Lutheran Church in Waco from 1956 until his retirement in 1993. After retirement he and Barbara became members of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Waco.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Anderson, of Waco; sons, Stephen Anderson and wife, Cathy, of Seguin, Texas, and Nathan Anderson and wife, Sharon, of Cypress, Texas; grandchildren, Erika and Ian Anderson, of Seguin, and Ryan and Evan Anderson, of Cypress; and brother, Edwin Anderson and wife, Betty Sue, of Nederland, Texas.
