Kirt Douglas Heukels, 69, passed away in his home on March 17th, 2022, under the care of hospice. Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan and now residing in Belding, Kirt touched the lives of all of the people he met. He was born on June 28th, 1952 to Cy Marvin and Doris Jean (Williams) Heukels, who both have preceded him in death. He grew up as the middle of five children, one of which being his twin Kent. Kirt attended Grand Rapids Area High School and from there he went right into being a working man. He enjoyed many different trades throughout his life, but his calling was always in carpentry and concrete. When not using his hands for building, you could find him in the kitchen cooking wondrous meals for many people in his life, mainly Greenville Eagles Club, in which he was an active member. Kirt adored the outdoors and you could find him with a fishing pole in his hand or out hunting for venison to make his famous chili. While his brother Kent went the writing way, Kirt spent time making art and drawing whatever came to his mind. He believed that he could make anyone laugh with a story.

Kirt will be remembered by his only child, Kelly Denise Heukels of Grand Rapids; his grandchildren Shelby Leeann Stadt and Seth Michael Selby; his only grandson, Axel Harvey Leonard-Selby, whom Kirt was glad to know for the six months that they shared on Earth; his sister Sandy Volmer of Grand Rapids; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including special companion and friend, Cindy Crysler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, his twin brother Kent, and sisters Sue and Bonnie.

No public services are scheduled at this time. Please keep Kirt and his family in your thoughts and prayers. For additional information, please contact Verdun Family Funeral Home in Belding at (616)794-1300 or at www.verdunfh.com, who is taking care of the arrangements.
