Decatur Weekly 12/19/1897
Mrs.Rebecca Birks Scroggin, wife of Thomas J. Scroggin, died of paralysis Saturday afternoon at her home three miles south of Harristown, age 60 years. She suffered a stroke of paralysis about 5 years ago and since that time she has been an invalid.
Mrs.Scroggin was born in Logan county and was a sister of John V. Birks of Decatur and James Birks of Dakota.
She was married to Thomas Scroggin, Jan. 1,1857 and since 1861 has lived with her husband on a farm near Harristown, a part of which was the farm on which Abraham Lincoln once lived.
She leaves one son, Rollo. Two other sons James R. and Charles S. are dead.
Mrs.Scroggin was a member of the Christian church. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 oclock from the residence and services will be conducted by Rev. Faoldes?.
