Sarah E. Shelton Richardson was the youngest daughter of William S. Shelton--the oldest son of Haman and Priscilla Fitzgerald Shelton--and his wife Evaline Jones Shelton. The William S. Shelton family came to Oregon from Andrew County, Missouri in 1853 later than the main Shelton family which came to Oregon in 1847 on the James Curl wagon train to the Scio, Oregon area.

Bilyeu Den Cemetery records and plot map indicate that Sarah E. Shelton Richardson is buried in an unmarked grave between her husband, Thomas Aaron "Ira" Richardson and their daughter Zelda B. Richardson.
