Judy graduated from Pasadena, TX. High School in 1959, where she played the flute and won competitions at the regional and state level. After spending summers with relatives in Conway, Ark., Judy enrolled at the Univ. of Central Ark. (UCA), formerly Ark. State Teacher's College, in Conway, Ark., where she was involved in the marching band, was President of Sigma Kappa Sorority, and earned a B.S. in Edu. in 1963.
Judy married Donald Arthur Ward on June 15, 1963. And they lived in Houston, TX., for 10 years and she taught school there. They moved to NW Ark. in 1973 where Judy volunteered at Tyson Elementary, led Brownie and Girl Scout troups, and served on the NOARK Girl Scout Council board. She and the family were members of First United Methodist Church in Springdale, Ark.
Judy returned to teaching 7th grade math in 1984 at SW Jr. High in Springdale, Ark., for 12 years, then earned a Masters in Edu. in 1995 and a Doctorate in Adult Edu., both at the Univ. of Ark. After winning a Rockefeller Foundation fellowship she mentored teachers in math. She served as president of the Adult Numeracy Network, retired in 2008, and moved to Phoenix, AZ., where she helped adults earn their GED, and was a member of No. Scottsdale United Methodist Church.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Joe, Jr. Judy is survived by daughters Susan Rauhoff (Lance) of Phoenix, AZ. and Sara Sheehan (Jeff) of Dallas, TX., grandchildren Will and Charlie Rauhoff, a sister, Marilyn Greene, and family of Onalaska, TX., and niece and nephew, Cathryn and Jason, of TX.
Visitation: 9 am June 25, 2022, followed by a memorial service at 10 am, at the Wasson FH in Siloam Springs, Ark. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Gentry, Ark.
