Phyllis Y. Peterson February 8, 1932 - June 6, 2022
Phyllis Y. Peterson, 90, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away on June 6, 2022 at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born February 8, 1932 in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late John and Neva (Barker) Neal. Phyllis married Bobbie Joe Peterson on December 24, 1950 in her parents home. They were blessed with nearly sixty-one years of marriage before he preceded on April 25, 2011. Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Patricia Bethard and husband, Larry of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Becky Hunter and husband, Keith of Saint Louis, Missouri; son, Mike Peterson and wife, Suzanne of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Rene' Green and husband, Tim, Clay Bethard and wife, Elizabeth, Danny Peterson, Michelle Chesnek and husband, Brett, Brent Peterson, Lindsey Duncan, Sarah Tomer, Josh Tomer and wife, Sarah, Carly McCartney, Keith Hunter and wife, Elissa, Brandon McCarth; fourteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her brothers, Jimmy Gordan Neal and Johnny Bob Neal. Mrs. Peterson first attended First Church of God and played piano and taught Sunday School. She later attended Boyd Christian Church and was very active in the after school program. Phyllis was an athlete that enjoyed tennis and swimming. She played softball through high school and was on a women's league after high school. Phyllis was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed. A Visitation will be held Saturday, June 11, 2022 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 1:30 pm at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois with Pastor Jeff Van Meter officiating. Interment will follow.
