Renate Marlene Durkin, nee Klobutowski, was born in Muhlheim, Germany on September 18, 1938, and she passed away on June 1, 2022. She was the daughter of Peter and Helene Klobutowski, and sister of Brigitte Vielhauer, nee Klobutowski. In 1954, she emigrated to the United States along with her sister and her mother, settled in Cincinnati, Ohio, and graduated from Indian Hill high school in 1958. She studied accounting at the University of Cincinnati, then went to work for an insurance company. She married Charles Bauer in 1961, and had 3 children, Bill, Mark, and Teri Bauer, in 1963, 1965, and 1967. She became a devoted homemaker, wife, and mother, and kept the books for Charles's construction business throughout the marriage. Later she worked outside the home in retail for 20 years, and retired in 2000. She met her second husband, Jerry Durkin, in 1995, and they were married in 2000.
Education was an important value to her, and she was especially proud of her children, all of whom graduated from college.
Renee's many interests included travel and studying languages. She was fluent in German and English, and studied Latin and French. She and Jerry were blessed to be able to travel the world during their retirement. Hobbies included playing bridge with friends, bowling, reading, and she was active in Silver Sneakers at the Blue Ash Senior Center. She was very patriotic and instilled a love of the United States to her children.
She was a devoted member of Good Shepherd parish, and was active in the Knitters and Crocheters ministry at the church.
