On the morning of November 7, 1906 Erick went into town accompanied by his son, Theodore with a team to bring home a load of brick, a few feet of lumber and some paint. When ready to go home he told his son to go on with the team and he would walk up the hill. This was the last he was seen by any of his family. His body was found the following March in the river. He had drowned.
