Scots-Irish immigrant who arrived in America about 1775/1776 at the Port of Philadelphia; joined the American Army and lost his life at the Battle of Brandywine on 11 September 1777. Accompanied to American by eloping with Mary Kyle; John and Mary had a common law marriage. The couple had one child, John, Jr. who lived in present-day Northeast Tennessee and married Leah Brooks. Misinformation on linked husbands.

I have been researching this direct ancestor for a long time and there is little to no information about him. If you have some information or documentation no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, it would be most welcomed!
