PERCY ESSEX DIES FOLLOWING HEART ATTACK

Percy Essex 63 of 1336 Albia Road, an associate of Essex Rock Maple Shop at this address, died suddenly today at the home of his daughter Mrs. George McFarland of Eldon. Death followed a heart attack.

The son of Byron and Hannah Waters Essex, he was born in Sherrard, ILL.; June 11, 1899. He had been a resident of Ottumwa for the past nine years. He was a retired carpenter and miner.

His marriage to Mildred Kirkhart took place Nov. 29, 1939 in St. Louis. She survives; also three step-daughters; Mrs. Maxine McFarland of Eldon, Mrs. Betty Short of Kettle KY., and Mrs. Faye Streitmatter of Speer, ILL.; one step son; SMS. R.J. Haffstatter in the Air Force at Randolph AFB Texas.; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother Roy Essex of Ohio, ILL., and one sister; Mrs. Mae Kettering of Sherrard, ILL.

He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will me Monday at Johnson Funeral chapel; with the Rev. Harry Lannsman , pastor of the First Baptist church officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.
