Melvin James "Tex" Biediger, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at his residence.
He was born in 1939, in Hondo, TX. He was a 1957 graduate of St. Louis High School in Castroville, Texas. He enlisted in the United States Army and served for the White House Communication Agency, from 1958-1968. During his Army service he served under President Eisenhower, Kennedy and Johnson. He was employed as a Civil Servant with the Federal Government until his retirement in 1993.
Melvin was an active member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church where he served as an usher and financial aide. Tex was a kind and loving man who was known for his love of faith, family and friends. He can be remembered for his passion for gardening, his home and the great outdoors. He thoroughly enjoyed showing friends and family the beauty and history of The Shenandoah Valley. Tex will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
On June 29, 1963, Melvin married Mary Jo Clark.
Melvin, who was affectionately known as "Tex" by his family and friends in Virginia, was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Olivia Biediger; sister, Barbara Biediger Groff Haby; brothers in law, Lawrence Groff, Emmett Haby and Terry Lawrence.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo Clark Biediger of Winchester, daughter, Marlene Sterrick and her husband Dan of Vienna, WV; son, Michael Biediger of Odenton, MD granddaughter, Courtney Sterrick of Vienna, WV; grandsons, Chris and Luke Biediger of Odenton, MD; brothers, Patrick and his wife Janet, Vincent and his wife Caroline both of Castroville, TX, Claude and his wife Lynette of Bandera, TX, Dennis and his wife Karen and Wayne and his wife Deborah both of La Coste, TX; sisters in law, Pat Lawrence of Winchester, Barbara and her husband Larry Abrell of Clear Brook, VA as well as numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00-3:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Monday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Stanley J. Krempa officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Winchester, VA. Military Honors will be afforded by V.F. W. Post 2123.
