She was born July 7, 1923, to Ralph and Effie Chandler in Gilmore, Idaho. They named her Mary Felicia Chandler. She was raised on Birch Creek and loved to tell stories of her time there. She spent her days with her siblings and would be the first to tell you she was not a good housekeeper because she spent her time milking cows instead of learning to clean.
At 17 she married George Waters and they spent time working on ranches. George worked the ranch while Mary did the cooking for the crew. Later they divorced and she moved to California to live with an aunt. Here she met her second husband Russell. They moved to Montana and Idaho where Russell prospected for gold. Later when they were in the Seattle area, Russell left.
Mary went to dress design school and then moved to Eugene, Oregon. Here she met Charles Goettling and they were married until his death around 1980. After Charles' death she moved to Emmett, Idaho to be near her lifelong friend, Opal. At this time, she was reacquainted with George Waters, and they remarried. They were together until his death. After this she was briefly married to Archie England. After his death, she changed her name to Mary Goettling Waters.
During her life, Mary was never able to have her own children. Mary was a very talented artist and was continually sketching pictures. Her pictures looked life-like whether they were portraits, animals or plants. Mary always wanted to be a dress designer and would regularly sketch her designs. She also loved to sew, paint and garden.
In 1957, Mary was introduced to Jesus, and she gave her life to Him. She became an avid Bible reader and attended church regularly. She was also a part of Women's Aglow. Mary was known for her strong will and sass, especially as she grew older. As she aged, she loved to sing just about any kind of song. She would serenade you every time you saw her. Mary went home with Jesus on May 20, 2022.
Her parents, brothers, and her sister preceded her in death. One brother, nieces, nephews and adopted family, survives her.
