Larry M. Johnston, 75, of Five Mile Rd., passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday (June 1st,2022).

Born January 8th, 1947 in Kane, Pa he was a son of Walter D. and Virginia Kemp Johnston. On May 20th, 1976 in Allegany, he married Cynthia J. Gross, who survives.

Mr. Johnston was a 1965 graduate of Otto-Eldred High School. He grew up in Eldred prior to moving to Allegany in 1976 where he had resided ever since. He was a proud veteran, having served with the US Army during the Vietnam Era. He spent his career employed as a steel worker at Dresser Rand in Olean for forty-three and a half years, retiring in 2008.

Larry was a dedicated member for forty-six years of the American Legion Post # 887 of Eldred, and served as the Post's Adjutant as well as the leader of their Honor Guard. He was a devoted husband and grandfather and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife of forty-six years are one son, Brian Johnston of Olean; three grandchildren, Mellissa (James) Miller, Abraham Johnston and Naomi Kirsch; four great-grandchildren, Rabecca, Brooke, Brandi and Henry Miller; two brothers, Gary Johnston of Shinglehouse, Mike (Terri) Ogilvie of Duke Center; and three sisters, Bonnie Schwab of Duke Center, Jackie (Tom) Gigliotti of Portville and Charlotte (Jim) Galloway of Duke Center.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Samantha Kirsch, and a sister, Connie Armstrong.
