Walter A. Ashley, 79, of 615 First St., Liverpool, a former employe of the New York Telephone Co. for 25 years, died yesterday following a short illness. Born in Olean, Mr. Ashley lived in Liverpool for 40 years. He retired 14 years ago. A veteran of the Spanish American War, he was a member of Liverpool Lodge 525, F&AM; John W. Butler Camp, 86, and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Ashley; a son, Kenneth E. Ashley of Sennett; a brother, Marcus E. Ashley of Liverpool; a sister, Mrs. F. J. Nixon of Buffalo, and a grandchild, Diane K. Ashley. Services will be conducted at the Maurer Funeral Home, Liverpool, at 1 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. James W. McConnell of Liverpool Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in North Syracuse. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow.
