Joab was married twice:
1) He married 22 year old Mary Jane Stone of Estill County, Kentucky, in Powell County, Kentucky on August. 16, 1855. Mary Jane was the daughter of Berry Stone and Sarah Finnell. Berry Stone was a farmer, school teacher, county clerk, orator, and state legistlator, serving 3 terms (1841-1843-1845).
In their 14 years of marriage, before Mary Jane died at age 49, Mary Jane and Joab had 12 children:
*Sarah Elizabeth Morton was their first born. She died at age 18, February 13, 1875.
