Lou was a graduate of UW-Oshkosh with a degree in education. On December 27, 1958 she married Kermit Pahnke. They shared 52 incredible years together. Kermit preceded Lou in death on December 13, 2011. Lou put her degree to good use as a lifelong teacher at St. Jude where she made many friendships before retiring in 1999. During her retirement, Lou and Kermit enjoyed time spent traveling throughout the United States, especially their trip to Hawaii. Lou was a wonderful quilter who used her talent for mission quilts through Bethel Lutheran Church where she loved to volunteer. She also quilted for Warmth From The Heart. In her free time, she liked to read and do crossword puzzles. Lou had a zest for life and also kept up with technology. Above all else, Lou loved her family deeply and they loved her dearly. All times spent together were cherished.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Thomas and Lauren Pahnke, Alice and Mike Smith, Susan and Paul Schoultz, Amelia Pahnke (Doug McKeefry); six grandchildren, Laura (Kyle), Leah (Adam), Matthew, Emily, Kassie (Zach), Kendra (C.J.); great grandson, Kalvin; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Lou was preceded in death by her loving husband, Kermit; her parents; as well as her sister and brothers.
Friends and family will gather at Bethel Lutheran Church, 1350 Bond St., on Thursday, June 2 from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Rev. Kim Swenson officiating.
