"Funeral services for Alfred Leo Lisby, 78, Ava, will be held at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at Clinkingbeard Chapel with the Rev. Mike Linderman officiating. Masonic services will also be conducted with burial to follow in Ava Cemetery.

A longtime Ava resident and businessman, Mr. Lisby died at 1 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, at Ava, following a long illness.

Leo and his wife, Doris, founded the Ava Hatchery here in 1936 and operated the business until 1968. Leo also served on the Ava City Council and was a member of the Ava Volunteer Fire Department for 41 years, serving as chief for many of those years. He was also employed at the Ava Locker Plant for several years.

Leo was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to travel to Montana, Colorado and Wyoming to hunt for big game. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church in Ava in the 1950s and 1960s and was a member of Ava Masonic Lodge No. 26.

Born April 28, 1911, at Fountain Grove, Mo., he was the son of David and Myrtle Young Lisby. He married Doris Smith on April 9, 1936, at Lebanon. They moved to Ava in 1937 from Lebanon.

Survivors include his wife, Doris; two daughters, Alice Marie Holbert of Springfield and Betty Jean Melton of Ava; one sister, Mrs. Doris Taylor of Fort Smith, Ark.; four grand-children and two great-grandchildren.
