Benjamin M. Thurston, 63, of 38 Mary Lane, an employee of the Weyerhaeuser Co. for 19 years until its closing in 1981, died Monday at home. He was the husband of Marie (Pacaud) Thurston.

Born in Newport, he was a son of the late Benjamin Marshall and Ruth (Mott) Thurston.

Mr. Thurston attended Colgate University. He was an Air Force veteran and served in the Korean War. He previously worked for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and the Concordia Yacht Co. He also owned the Turkey Hill Tree Farm for many years.

Mr. Thurston was a communicant of St. Mary's Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 5390. H was a founding member of the Rhode Island Christmas Tree Growers Association. He was active in Boy Scouting, and was the second Eagle Scout in Portsmouth. He was a leader in BSA Troop 1.

Besides his wife he leaves two daughters, Lynn A. Thurston of Portsmouth and Pamela Rohdenburg of Brewster, N.Y.; a son, Mark M. Thurston of Flagstaff, Ariz., and two granddaughters.

The funeral will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, East Main Road. Burial will be in St. Mary's Churchyard.
