Jackie P Glaze, age 87, of Cleveland, Georgia passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022.
Mr. Glaze was born on March 9, 1935 in White County, Georgia; he was the ninth of ten children to Lester C. Glaze and Nezzie House Glaze, and the last remaining sibling. He was a loving "Pop" to his grandchildren and "Papa Jack" to his great-grandchildren.
Jackie was very proud to be the brother of Rondall H. Glaze, the highest decorated WWII soldier in White County, Georgia; including the Distinguished Service Cross, the nation's second highest award for valor. Rondall was honored with a statue unveiled by Jackie at the opening ceremony for the Veterans Park in Helen, Georgia on June 30, 2018.
Jackie worked many jobs but began at Mason Dixon in Atlanta, in order to work with his brothers and brothers-in-law by lying about his age. He also worked at Chicopee Lumite and Habersham County Public Works Department. Jackie spent his life loving animals, especially horses and served as a homemade vet and a farrier to much of the community, but his true passion in later life was training mules to pull a wagon. After excelling at this hobby, he spent many hours serving his community by providing wagon rides in parades and weddings as well for churches, vacation bible schools, schools and for disabled children.
He is survived by his wife, Nell Lovell Glaze; daughters, Wanda McKinney (Mike); Anita Glaze; granddaughters, Blair Eubanks (Daniel); Molly McKinney; great-grandchildren, Shay and Jackson Eubanks; special friend and neighbor, Phil Canady and caregivers, Justin and Addie.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 27, 2022 at the Union Grove Congregational Church with Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 26, 2022 and from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 27, 2022 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel.
