Corporal Aarno Aho was killed in action at Taipaleenjoki, Metsäpirtti, on 15 December 1939, during the Battle of Taipale in the Winter War. A former works foreman from Töysä, he was 23 and unmarried at the time of his death. Corporal Aho was part of the 23rd Infantry Regiment (Jalkaväkirykmentti 23).

Taipaleenjoki is now known as the Burnaya River, and Metsäpirtti, Käkisalmi is now Zaporozhye, Priozersky District in Leningrad. This land was ceded from Finland to the Soviet Union following the Continuation War.
