"Robert Brown was a native of Philadelphia. He learned the trade of stonemason and followed the same the most of his life. He was employed in the construction of locks on the Erie canal at Lockport and other places. In 1842 he settled on a farm in Allegany [sic] county, New York, where he lived until 1853, when he moved to Oneida county, New York, and was employed on the locks along the Black river. In 1865 he moved to Blue Earth county, Minnesota, where he resided until his death, in 18[88], at the age of seventy-five years."
