Robert Theodore Kindla, 65, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 19, 2022, while working on the land he loved – the land he was born on, raised on, raised his family on, and then left this Earth on. He was born on January 28, 1957. He was a pillar in the Southside ISD community, always giving back and helping others. If you grew up in Southside ISD in the 70s, you knew his name. He was a star basketball player and loved the sport all of the rest of his days. He went on to play basketball at Trinity University after graduation and decided not to play after one year to provide for his mother, Anita, after the death of his father in September 1974. His love, loyalty, and devotion to his family started young.
He began working at HEB in the Warehouse/Distribution Center in August 1983. After witnessing the workplace shooting in October of 1993, he continued proudly working for a total of 28 years in the warehouse, primarily in Frozen Foods. He went on to retire from HEB in March 2012, and then began working full-time on his ranch. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, always counting down the days until deer season.
He loved his community. He was never one to turn away a neighbor in need. He and his truck or tractor came to the rescue of dozens of people over the years, never expecting anything in return. In continuing to give back to his community, he proudly served on the Southside ISD School Board in the 1990s, serving as President for one term. He was a devoted, longtime member of El Carmen Catholic Church, attending services religiously each Saturday evening with his wife.
He was preceded in death by his father Theodore Kindla, mother, Anita Schumpelt Kindla Korus, bonus father Louis Korus, and brothers Michael Kindla and Benjamin Korus. He is survived by his high school sweetheart, wife of 45 years, Betty Sanchez Kindla; daughter Tracy Kindla (Denise Rodriguez) and their daughter, Robert's beautiful granddaughter, Jordyn Rylee Rodriguez; son, Jason Kindla and his son, Robert's precious grandson, Jase Alexander Kindla; mother-in-law, Elvira Sanchez, brothers, Alvin Korus (Vicki), and Edwin Korus (Rhonda), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Don't worry Dad, we remembered to "Close the Gate".
