He was the son of the late Joshua Leonard Slayton and Annie Mae Aaron Slayton.
He was born in Callands, Pittsylvania County, VA.
He was predeceased by a son Charles L. Slayton, three brothers Clarence Jackson Slayton, Eldridge Clay Slayton and Bernard Aaron Slayton, a stepbrother Lester Boyer and two stepsisters Catherine Boyer Parker and Mabel Boyer Walton and his stepmother Odelle Hughes Slayton.
He was retired from Allied-Signal Corp. (Honeywell) as a mechanic after 25 years of service.
He was a member of Third Presbyterian Church, Petersburg, VA where he served as an elder and was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years. At the present time, he was a member of the Dinwiddie Lodge #136.
Survivors are his wife Joyce Ann C. Slayton of over 51 years, a son Robert A. Slayton, a daughter Cheryl A. Slayton, one sister Peggy S. Owens, three brothers Russell O. Slayton and Billy Cecil Slayton, of Farmville and F. Carl Slayton of Bluffton, SC, one grandchild one great-grandchild numerous nieces and nephews and many loving friends.
The funeral service was held at the Third Presbyterian Church, 1660 Dupuy Road, Petersburg, with Dr. Louis Williams officiating.
Burial followed at in Trinity Memorial Gardens, 22482 Prince Edward Highway, Farmville.
