Born to Maurice Atkins and Lucinda Peake on April 3 1836, Minerva (or Manerva) Jane Atkins was one of at least 6 children that also included Joe Atkins, Lucinda Atkins Walker, Mary Atkins Haynes, Scott Atkins and Samuel Atkins.
On December 24, 1854, Minerva Jane married Valentine Willis Capps who was the son of Joseph Capps and Rebecca Moulder. Valentine Willis Capps and Minerva Jane Atkins was the parents of 10 children. William Scott Capps was born on February 22, 1856; Joseph Morris Capps was born April 12 1858; Samuel Atkins Capps was born August 30 1860; Claudius Meade Capps was born Arpil 9 1863. Their first daughter, Mary Selena Capps (who went on to marry William Houston Boruff) was born on April 29 1866. Five more daughters followed: Ollie Frances Capps (married Jacob Lafayette Cabbage) b Feb 5 1869, Emily Lucinda Capps (married John Hill) b Jan 9 1872, Rebecca Elizabeth Capps (married Will Beeler) b August 10 1874, Alice Delona Clara Capps (married Hugh Haynes) b Feb 24 1878 and Nora Laverna Capps (married Dan Acuff) b Aug 28 1882.
Minerva Jane Atkins Capps died on Feb 17 1910, four years before her husband of 56 years did.
