Johnnie married his wife, Nancy Halley, in June of 1962 and they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary next month. He was an independent building contractor for many years before taking a superintendent position with Whitesell-Green.
Johnnie is survived by his wife, Nancy, and children, James (Jaclyn), Doretta (Earl) and John (D'Arcie); grandchildren Cameron Davis and Aubriana Chessher; Wayne McCranie (Yovonka), who was like a son to him; and special friends Tom and Linda Barrow.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Chelse and James, and sister, Louise.
In his early years, Johnnie enjoyed trail riding, fishing and showing his horses. Later in life his hobbies included hunting, spending time with his family and eating ice cream. He will be dearly missed.
A visitation will be held Monday evening, May 7, 2012, at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home from 6-8 PM with services on Tuesday at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery.
