James Burrell "Buddy" Fitch was born July 2, 1928 in Altoga, TX, to Almer Jack and Emma Cleo Fitch. He passed away September 27, 2015 in Kaufman, TX.
Buddy served in the US National Guard, and continued in his sense of duty by joining the Dallas Reserve Police in the 1950's, and later becoming very active in community Crime Watch organizations in and around the Kaufman area, which contributed to him being named "Citizen of the Year" in 2002. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a member of the First Assembly of God in Kaufman, TX. During his career Buddy worked in construction, and for the Smith Detective Agency, also in the '50's. When Buddy went to work for the City of Dallas, he started in the Meter Shop, moved to the Pumping Division, and ended his career as a supervisor in the Water Department.

Buddy met and married his wife, Mary Pearl Allen, on March 26, 1948. They actually got married the day before their wedding was scheduled, because Buddy just didn't want to wait one more day. He and Mary went to the home of the Judge who was to marry them, and he was out in his pasture, vaccinating cows. That is how Buddy and Mary came to be married in a cow pasture; and that is a story that has delighted generations of his family.

After their marriage they lived in various places in Arkansas and Texas before settling in the Dallas area. After his retirement, they traveled a lot before settling down again to work as gate keepers for the Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Bardwell. In his final years, Buddy lived at Sunflower Park Nursing Home, where he passed away peacefully in his sleep.

Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Emma Fitch; sister, Wanda Lee Bell; son, Burrell Wayne Fitch; son-in-law, Waco Arterbury; grandchildren, James Anthony O'Neal, Michael Wayne O'Neal, Terrance Ealoms, Denise Reyes, and Ricky Crowder; and great-grand-children, Nicholas Reyes and Shane Stracner.

Buddy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Pearl Allen Fitch; daughters, Wilma Crowder and husband Virgil of Rosebud, Arkansas, Rhea Arterbury of Combine, Texas, Judy Foster and husband Steve of San Antonio, Texas; Annette Wallace and husband Fred of Kaufman, Texas; brother, Ray Fitch and wife Helen of Seven Points, Texas; sisters, Bea Breedlove and husband Herman of Mabank, Texas, and Opal Prock of Grand Saline, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 2, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Grove Hill Funeral Home, and Funeral Services will be Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Kaufman County Christian Center, 200 4th Street, Kaufman, TX 75142, and will be followed by Interment at Laurel Oaks Memorial Park.
