George had daughter, Maxine, and son, Paul, by his first wife, Anna K. Smith, who died July 4, 1916. She and George had a son together and Fern named him George Leslie Herrell Jr.as she was pregnant with their child when husband, George died June 14, 1923, and the baby was born Sep. 25, 1923 in Bates County, MO.

After her husband died, she resided with her brother, George Simon, in Farmersville, IL, returning to her daughter, Mrs. Maxine Cowgill, in Normandy, St. Louis County, MO. Stepson Paul lived in St., Louis at the time. She is survived by her son, George Jr. in Houston TX, stepson Paul in St. Louis, MO, and stepdaughter, Mrs. Maxine Cowgill of Normandy, MO; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services for Mrs. Verna Fern (Simon) Herrell of Normandy, MO were conducted Saturday afternoon, July 7, 1973 at Farmersville, IL Methodist Church by Rev. Joseph Ferreai with burial in Rovey Cemetery in Farmersville, IL.
