He was born January 24, 1944 in Kalamazoo, to Arthur and Cleo (Meisterheim) Merchant. Carl was a builder by trade, but more importantly, he was a builder of faith and family. By his example, he displayed quiet strength, leadership, empathy and wisdom. His impact stretched far beyond his family and friends. Through his selfless actions, he influenced many communities and charities and took great joy in volunteering. This included St. Ann's Catholic Church, Bread of Life Pantry, Sheriff Reservist, Boy Scout leader, coach and many others. He also served as an influential member of the Board of Education for Kelloggsville Public Schools for 22 years.
Visitation will be at Verdun Funeral Home- 585 7th St., Baldwin on Friday, May 20th from 2-4pm and 5-8pm with a Rosary at 7:30pm. The funeral mass will be on Sat. May 21st at 1:30pm at St. Ann's Catholic Church – 1001 Michigan Ave, Baldwin. Private burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Wyoming, MI
