Ruby was born in Coffee County to the late Oscar Cecil Green and Thelma Ruth Messick Green on January 23, 1938. She went to high school at Woodbury Central. She worked as a seamstress and secretary at Woodbury Shirt Factory and later worked for Ben Myerson Candy Company in Los Angeles, California. She enjoyed reading, walking, and bowling. She was a member of Barfield Baptist Church.
Ruby is survived by her sons, Bruce (Ann) Haley of Eagleville and Chris (Carol) Haley of Woodbury; grandchildren, Callie (Kenny) Buchanan of Woodbury, Isaac (Abby) Haley of Unionville, Lytton Haley of Eagleville, Isabel Haley, Emma Haley, both of Woodbury; great-grandchild, Curtis Buchanan. Ruby is also survived by her sisters, Betty Grissom of Woodbury, Melba Emptage of El Monte, CA, Joyce Burns of Manchester, and Peggy (Barry) Sain of Manchester, along with many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Ruby is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Velasco; brothers, Junior Green, Billy Green, Marvin Green, Don Green, Melvin Green, and Jimmy Green.
The funeral service will be held at Murfreesboro Funeral Home on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 1pm with Reverend Ron Byers of Barfield Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Woodbury, Tennessee. Visitation will be held at Murfreesboro Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, from 4pm – 8pm. Murfreesboro Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements.
