African American Baha'i
Wes was a member of the Baha'i Faith. He pioneered to Uganda at the age of 70. He was a wonderful soul with a vibrant voice, singing in the choirs at the Baha'i houses of Worship in the US and Uganda, and at the Ethiopian jubilee. He will be greatly missed.

WES BAKER SERVICE- thanks to Joyce Jackson for original post!
Through the miracle of technology I was able to "attend" Wes Baker's funeral which took place in Kampala, Uganda. It was 3-6 a.m. for me but worth getting up to see these beautiful services, first in the Baha'i House of Worship, where prayers and many, many songs were sung - all songs Wes had sung himself when in the Temple choir. Then the service moved to the Baha'i Center where Wes laid in state. Letters from the Universal House of Justice, The NSA of Uganda, the NSA of the United States, and the Spiritual Assembly of Kampala were all read and several friends shared their own memories of Wes - always evoking his radiant spirit, his beautiful voice, and his love for all he met. A special bounty was the participation of the Kampala Singers, a city choir that Wes (and several other of the Baha'is) took part in. They sang several beautiful songs in Wes's honor and I was so glad that they were there. Also, dear Masudi Dav, a young man I knew when I lived in Uganda, provided his own beautiful voice in a few solos at the Temple and at the Center. I did not attend the actual burial, which was in the Baha'i Cemetery within sight of the Temple, but I feel certain more songs were sung there. All in all, Wes was appropriately "sung" home.
