EZRA HORTON, farmer, Sec. 4; P. O. Door Creek ; a native of New York; was born in Oneida Co, Feb, 12, 1816 ; his parents, Erastus and Tephena (Burley) Horton, were natives of Connecticut, but emigrated to Oneida Co., N Y., about 1815, and, in 1820, with their family, removed to Oswego
Co., where Ezra made his home till 1842; emigrating at that time to Wisconsin, he settled in the town of Oakland, Jefferson Co., whence, in 1844, he came to this town and located his present farm of 162 acres. He was the first Tax Collector of this town.
Mr. Horton was married in Jefferson Co., Wis., in 1847, to Clarissa Tyler, a native of Herkimer Co., N. Y., and who came to Wisconsin in 1846 ; their children Chester, Emmett, and Clara (now the wife of Edward D. Lawrence, and lives in the town of Cottage Grove).

A memory from Dean Goecks: Ezra was related to my mother, the two brothers that ran the farm after his death, I believe were his sister Clara's sons Emmett and Fred Lawrence. He told them if they put a nice stone on his grave that they would own the farm, at that time they did and they lived out there lives on that farm. Their last name wasn't Horton and because of that Dean's mom never new they were related, although they were friends and worked for Dean's mom and dad off and on at their farm. Emmett was killed on the Mattoon farm in a freak farm mishap in 1945. (He fell off the roof of the barn while doing repairs).
Fred died in 1965 at the age of about 82.
