He came to Texas November 4, 1847. He lived in Smith County for six
years, then moved to Wood County, nine miles southwest of Quitman in
1853. He provided the family history to the Wood County Democrat in
the November 19, 1930 issue. He was 89 at that time. He was one of the
earliest growers of the new type of ribbon cane. He also helped to
build the school house and community center in Cartwright, TX. He grew
cotton, corn, peanuts and more on his farm. He received 19 acres in
his father estate and owned 300 acres in all. He served in Co B,
Lock's Reg't 10th TX Reg't Ector's Brigade, was a POW.

WOOD COUNTY TEXAS CENTENIAL
They lived
on the Shamburger farm near Pine Mills for 24 years, then moved to the
Cartwright Community 4 Jul 1877. Twelve children were born to this
marriage: 1 Peter M., m. Mary Loyd 2 Robert Lee, m. Julia Jackson 3
Willie J., m. Olivia Ray 4 Annie, m. (1) T.J. Mayo; (2) Bud Moseley 5
Walter died in infancy 6 Archie M. m. Marrie Sue Thompson 7 Maggie,
m. Jake Holley 8 John, m. Jessie Sharp 9 Nora C., m. Walter C. Cruce
10 Minnie Jane, m. D.H. McNally 11 Henry, m. Mable Gatlin 10 Mary,
m. Ben Stinson Spinks L. Shamburger fought for the Confederacy with
the 10th Texas Company, Locks Regiment, ector's Brigade. He died in
1932 and was buried in the Lee Cemetery. by Miss Chester Shamburger
