Effie Louise weighed only 4 pounds at birth and was not expected to live. To everyone's surprise, she did survive and lived an honorable, lovely and productive life to the age of 97.
Effie graduated from Meadow High School where she met her husband, J.D.Hinson, who was her math teacher. They married in 1928 and moved to Lubbock. Effie and J.D. produced three children, Jamie Stevenson, Powell Hinson and Suzann Jones. During their life together, Effie was very active in the Junior League and the Women's Club of Lubbock. She loved to play bridge and golf.
Following her husband's death in 1954, she managed his businesses. In 1963, she married J.D. Sanders, who was a builder. Effie helped decorate the houses he built. Following his death, Effie managed an apartment complex. Effie passed away on Jan. 13th in the Covenant Medical Center. She is survived by nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and five great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the First Christian Chapel. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at Rix Funeral Directors on Broadway from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today.
