Mrs. Cordelia Divelbiss, wife of Noah Divelbiss, died at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon. This announcement will bring sorrow to many hearts in this city. The deceased lady was a daughter of the late Mr. Wm. W. Watson, and was born in Nashville, Tenn., March 16, 1828. Mr. Watson moved from Nashville to St. Louis, where he was in business about two years, and then located in this city in the autumn of 1836. Mrs. Divelbiss grew up from childhood in this city, of which she had been a resident for forty-four years. She was married August 8, 1848, to Mr. Noah Divelbiss, one of the best known and most esteemed residents of this city.

Mrs. Divelbiss had an unusually large circle of friends in the community, and enjoyed their esteem and respect to an unusual degree. For the past fourteen years she had been an invalid, having been disabled by rheumatism, and for several years had been unable to walk. But she bore all her sufferings with true Christian fortitude, and uncomplainingly endured all her afflictions until death at last brought relief. She was an active member of the old North Baptist Church during its existence, and before becoming an invalid was always prominent in all good work. IL State Journal, Springfield, IL 11-10-1880
