(Tuesday afternoon) Wheeler Durben, 46, saw mill owner and farmer, fatally wounded his wife, Mrs Anna Durbin, 20, with a 12 gauge Winchester pump gun and then killed himself.
Letter to his brother, Alfred Durben. Married before and had three children. Wife died seven years ago and two years later married Miss Anna Freetage. Lived in a cottage at the out skirts of North Salem.

Durben was a man of considerable means, owning several properties at North Salem and had, for a number of years, successfully operated a saw mill.
Mrs Durben would have been 21 years of age on Wednesday. Parents, Mr and Mrs John Freetage, four sisters and five brothers.
Durben leaves 3 children. No children by his second marriage.
