White, Phyllis Jean Born March 23, 1924 in Valley Junction, Iowa, passed peacefully on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, surrounded by her family after 96 years of wonderful life. Mother to Lori (Joe), Doug (Kris), Steve (Carole), and Jeff, and grandmother to Nichelle, Aidan, Greta, Connor, Ella, Lydia, Martha, and Stanley; she is preceded in death by her son Jeff, and husband, WWII pilot Stanley White, whom she married just after the war. The seventh child of eight to mother Mary and father Michael, she enjoyed a childhood with her siblings preparing Sunday dinners of fried chicken and noodles - which her grandchildren can attest, are still delicious. A talented speller, she never stopped winning Scrabble games over her family and friends, and won her building's spelling bee in the last weeks of her life. Fond of the open road, she spent eight winters in her seventies driving on her own between Minnesota and Arizona, and took pleasure in both states' golf courses well into her eighties. She enjoyed the camaraderie of other smokers, including staff members of her assisted living building. Loved as much as she will be missed, her family takes solace in the peacefulness with which she departed. A private memorial service is planned.
