George Marion Boyd, Jr., 81, of Lynchburg, died Friday, January 11, 2008, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Patricia Sweeney Boyd. Born December 31, 1926 in Charleston, SC, he was the son of the late George Marion and Ruth Roberts Boyd. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Laura Boyd Wilson, and her husband, Mike, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Martha Roberts Boyd of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and five grandchildren: Molly Mathews, Boyd Wilson, Ann Madeleine Wilson, Wesley Sterling and Mitchell Sterling. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Boyd Elmore of Springfield, Virginia. George was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry, as a lector, a Lay Eucharistic Minister and intercessor. He was also an active Bible study leader and participant. A graduate of Clemson University, George served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was employed by Aerofin Corporation for 30 years as a mechanical engineer. He was also a Master Gardener with a very productive garden at Yoder Community Center. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 14, 2008 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church by the Reverends Douglas Wigner, Todd Die, and James Hubbard with committal in the church's columbarium following the service. A reception will follow at the church. The family will receive visitors at the church after the funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 605 Clay Street, Lynchburg, 24504.
