Brian resided in Blackpipe, SD with his parents and grew up in Minneapolis, MN with his uncle Willard Male Bear, Sr. Brian returned back to the reservation and also lived in Sioux Falls, SD. Brian married Minerva At The Straight and to this union had five children, Brainna, Brittany, Brian, Jr., Brendon, and Jacob.
Brian is survived by daughters, Brianna (Jace Anderson, Sr.) Thunder Shield and Brittany Thunder Shield; sons, Brian Thunder Shield, Jr., Brendon Thunder Shield, and Jacob Thunder Shield; step-sons, Chris & Dillon; and siblings, Gayalynn Thunder Shield and Fred Thunder Shield, Jr.; grandchildren, Delillon, Carter, and Jace Anderson, Jr., Cody Poppin, Caroline, Brayden, Annecia, Azeala, Cody, Jr., and Nova Keiann Thunder Shield; Jaiker and Zyanna Thunder Shield; nieces & nephews, Sheldon Wooden Knife, Asa Wooden Knife, Jaret Wooden Knife, Lesley Ann Wood Knife, and Trent Wooden Knife.
Brian was preceded in death by his parents, Fred, Sr. and Marion (Edwards) Thunder Shield; children, Lakota Win Thunder Shield and Autumn Thunder Shield; and grandparents, Vincent and Esther Thunder Shield, Narcisse Edwards, Sr., and Martha Quick Bear.
