Donna M. Grote (Pilcher/Hart) passed away at the age of 90 on April 14, 2022, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was born on January 1, 1932, in Omaha, Nebraska.
Donna delighted in her family and her hobbies. She loved babies and stray dogs, was an avid reader, had an extensive antique doll collection and was well known for her skills in English hand smocking and knitting. She earned numerous ribbons at the Iowa State Fair through the years.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Katherine, adoptive father Everett Pilcher, father Paul Hart, and brothers Charles Pilcher and Dave Hart.
Donna is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Stanley H. Grote. She is also survived by her four children, Debra Schwiesow (Stephen) of Council Bluffs; Dale Grote of Charlotte, North Carolina; Doug Grote (Jackie) of Omaha; and Darren Grote (Patti) of Clive, Iowa. She leaves the light of her life - her 10 grandchildren: Peter Nielsen, Carin Grote Preston (Sean), Audrey Bissiere Grote, Lea Bissiere Grote, Kyle Grote (Laura Evans), Taylor Grote, Katherine Grote Stauffer (Jake), Logan Grote, Ethan Grote and Natalie Grote. In July, the family will welcome the first great grandchild (Henry James Stauffer). Other survivors include Jeanne Pilcher Maher; John Pilcher (Suzanne), Judy Hart Campbell; Bill Hart (Connie), Sharon Hart Viering, Sharon Hart, Elana Pilcher, and Bruce Smiley.
As reflected by her giving nature Donna donated her body to the Nebraska Medical Center where she will continue to give back to the education of future medical professionals. The family is planning a memorial service which will be held at First Congregational, UCC in Council Bluffs on August 28th at 10:30 am. The family suggest memorials be sent to First Congregational Church, UCC in Council Bluffs, Every Step Hospice of Council Bluffs, or Midlands Humane Society.
