Gladys was the last of eight children born to Robert James and Anna Murphy Burrows, immigrants to America in the 1870's. Robert was a cabinet maker, carpenter and contractor and built in Ashland, Wisconsin the home she was born in. She married in 1912 to Duncan McLennan Paton an employee of the Great Northern Railroad Co., in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. She was the mother of two children, a son and daughter. Her son moved to Tucson in 1946 and she and her husband wintered here in their retirement years.
