Joseph Imbelloni
August 21, 1943 - April 24, 2022
Joe Imbelloni passed away surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, April 24th at sunrise. Joe is survived by his daughter ... and grandchildren ... He was preceded in death by his sister, Michelina Imbelloni and brothers, John and Frank Imbelloni.

Joe was born on August 21, 1943 to Maria Teresa and Giacomo Imbelloni in Verbicaro, Italy. At the age of 12, he immigrated to the United States with his parents on the SS Andrea Doria. Tragically, the ship crashed on their journey to America. Joe lost his mother in the accident and was separated from his father. When he finally reunited with his father, they began their journey to San Francisco and settled with family.
He started school at Marina Junior High where he met his lifelong friend, Charlie ... Charlie's family embraced Joe as one of their own, and Charlie's mother, Grace, became his second mother. Throughout the years Joe, Charlie and their many friends had endless laughs and adventures. While attending Galileo High School, Joe worked at a grocery store then moved on to a job in construction. During that time he met Carol Bassetti who he later married. They settled in Marin where they raised their daughter ...
Joe's business journey began when he became a partner in his father-in-law's gas station. Together, they named the station Fred & Joe's Phillips 66. Both Fred and Joe had friendly personalities and it quickly became a social spot. After years running the gas station, Joe returned to working in construction with his brother John who joined him from Italy. In 1974, he decided to study for his Real Estate and Contractors' Licenses. That same year, Imbelloni Construction was born when Joe and John purchased their first home together to remodel on Potrero Street in San Francisco. From there, the brothers continued acquiring and remodeling homes, creating more opportunities to expand the business. In 1991, his daughter Lauren fulfilled his dreams of a family business by joining Imbelloni Construction. With his entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic, Joe grew his business into an integral part of development in San Francisco. Especially his work in the South of Market/Mission area which has now become a thriving community. Joe's final large project was the development of 2011 Bayshore Avenue where he added three new streets to the city. When given the choice, he decided to name these streets after his daughter and granddaughters. Joe truly left his heart in San Francisco.
Joe was blessed with a very full life. His loving personality, kindness, and generosity drew people to him. He enjoyed making wine with his brother John, gardening, and hosting large barbeques and gatherings for his friends and family. Imbelloni Construction's office on 19th Street was the center of lively and authentic Italian meals. He brought people together effortlessly and gave them the gift of life long memories.
In 2009, Joe moved to Hillsborough to be near his most cherished love ones, his daughter and grandchildren. Nothing brought him more joy than to be with his grandchildren, they were the light of his life. The gatherings continued in his new home. He loved bringing friends and family together and welcomed everyone.
Joe was a very compassionate and affectionate man who was loved by all. His positive nature, beautiful smile, big hugs, and contagious laughter always lit up the room. We will all miss him dearly. He truly exemplified the ideals of the American Dream. May he rest in peace.
Friends are invited to a Rosary on May 3rd at Our Lady of Angels Church, 1721 Hillside Dr. in Burlingame immediately followed by a Funeral Mass. Joe will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colma.
