Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2022, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Bailey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Basham was born on September 20, 1931 to Warren Marion Red and Geneva Robinson Bandy in West Monroe, LA and passed away on Monday, April 25, 2022 in Springhill. She was a member of Springhill United Methodist Church where she sang as a soloist in the choir as well as being a handbell ringer for many years. Joan was educated at Crosley Elementary School, Ouachita High School and earned a Bachleor's Degree in music education at Northeast LA State College in Monroe, LA in 1952. She was first chair French Horn in Monroe's Twin City Symphony Orchestra during college and was a band director in Tallulah, LA prior to moving to Springhill where she directed bands at Sarepta High School, Brown Jr. High and Springhill High School. She retired after 21 years with the Webster Parish School System and she enjoyed crafting.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara B. Giddings of Springhill; grandson, Brayden Cheatham and wife, Kaci of Shongaloo; son-in-law, Charles Ray Buddy Cheatham, Jr. of Shongaloo; three great-grandchildren, Mary Blake Cheatham, Willow Cheatham, Amelia Cheatham; sister, Betty Watson and husband, Paul of Dallas, TX; and brother, Warren M. Bandy, Jr. of Oxnard, CA.
Mrs. Basham was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bobby Jack Basham; daughter, Mary Margaret Basham Cheatham; and son-in-law, Donnie Joe Giddings.
Pallbearers will be Kurt McClinchie, Morgan McClinchie, Barry Nehls, Larry Tucker, Dan Watson and Jeremy Nehls.
