Joseph Dulles is the progenitor of the Dulles family in America. Among his descendants are John Foster Dulles, the secretary of State to Eisenhower and Allen Welsh Dulles one of the Directors of the CIA. He was born in Limerick, Ireland and arrived in America 1779 to assist the patriots in their fight against England. He married Sophia Heatley, the daughter of Colonel William Heatley of the Orangeburg District in South Carolina about 1787.
